Ode to the Carrot

The carrot is phallic,
Orange, hardy, organic.
Innocuous bristles on skin,
Like an adolescent’s chin
It juts, and points, upwards straining,
Confidence feigning.

Daily bread of rabbit, and mule
You lie interred in the cool
Dark, and point without thought,
Creased in your taut,
Peelable skin.

You are eaten.
